SIU invokes mandate following officer-involved shooting 

 

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked their mandate following an officer-involved shooting downtown.

At approximately 10 a.m., officers responded to a report of a person with a weapon in the 700 block of Goyeau Street. During the incident, the suspect in possession of the weapon was shot by police. The suspect was transported to hospital and was later pronounced deceased.

Goyeau Street remains closed to public access from Tuscarora Street to Erie Street East, and Elliot Street remains closed from Windsor Avenue to Dufferin Place.

SIU now has carriage of the investigation. As such, we cannot provide any further comment regarding this incident.
